A. Introduction: The Historical Setting (1)

    1. Nebuchadnezzar captures Jerusalem (1-2)

    2. Daniel and his friends succeed in Babylon (3-21)

B. The Kingdoms of the Gentiles and the Kingdom of God (2-7)

    * A -- God gives a dream with a vision about the succession of four Gentile kingdoms which are ultimately replaced by God's kingdom (2)

        * B -- God sends an angel to miraculously deliver his servants, Daniel's friends, who were being attacked for their exclusive worship of the one true God (3)

            * C -- God humbles a ruler who walks in pride (Nebuchadnezzar), taking away his sovereignty immediately (4)

            * C' -- God humbles a ruler who walks in pride (Belshazzar), taking away his sovereignty immediately (5)

        * B' -- God sends an angel to miraculously deliver his servant Daniel, who was being attacked for his exclusive worship of the one true God. (6)

    * A' -- God gives a dream with a vision about the succession of four Gentile kingdoms which are ultimately replaced by God's kingdom and God's ruler (7)
