Sermon Outline
A. Rest from suffering
1. Sometimes the rest given in death seems best (Job 3:11-36)
2. Cry out to God for rest in times of suffering (Ps 3:1-6; 22:1-5)
3. Suffering brings many emotions that we want rest from (Ps 55:1-6)
4. Rest and wait for the Lord to inherit the land (Ps 37:7-11)
5. God provides rest for our soul when under extreme distress (Ps 116:1-7)
B. Rest from work
1. Being a sluggard leads to poverty (Pr 6:6-11; 19:15; 20:13)
2. Working to gain earthly treasures leads to no rest (Ecc 2:17-26; 5:10-17)
3. Don’t labor too much, don’t rest too much (Ecc 4:4-8)
4. Don’t trust in your own labor, trust in God (Ps 127:1-2)
5. Labor wisely (Ecc 11:6; Pr 10:5; 31:27)
C. Rest in the Lord
1. We find it in the Lord (Ps 37:7; 3:4; 22:2; 55:1-2; 116:4)
2. By not hardening our hearts (Ps 95)
3. When you direct your heart right (Job 11:13-20; Ps 37:7-8)
