Evangelism, Class 3: The Gospel

April 17, 2022 Speaker: Ryan Atkinson Series: Evangelism

I. What Does the Bible Say About the Gospel

     1. The Gospel has the power to save sinners. (Romans 1:16-17)

     2. The Gospel is not mere human wisdom. (1 Corinthians 1:17)

     3. There are false gospels in the world that result in death. (Galatians 1:6-12)

     4. The Gospel calls for a right response. (Romans 10:16; 2 Thessalonians 1:8; 1 Peter 4:17)

II. What Does the Bible Say the Gospel Is?

     1. Christ died and rose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

     2. Christ died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3)

     3. We are saved if we receive and hold fast to the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-2; Mark 1:15; Acts 2:37-38, 3:18-20)

III. What Else Should We Say When We Share the Gospel

     1. The God who created the heavens and the earth made humanity to worship and fellowship with Him. (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 24:1; Isaiah 44:9-28; Jeremiah 10:10; 1 Thessalonians 1:9; 1 John 1:3, 5:20)

     2. Man has rebelled against God and become a slave to sin; as a result, he stands under God's holy wrath and judgement. (Romans 1:18-32, 3:9-18; Ephesians 2:1-3; Exodus 34:6-7; Ezekial 18:20; Revelation 20:11-15)

     3. Jesus, the Son of God, died on the cross and was raised from the dead and now stands as the Lord who is able to save those who repent and condemn those who rebel. (2 Corinthians 5:18-21; Colossians 1:20-22; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10; Revelation 19:11-15)

     4. We must respond to the Gospel by turning from our sin (repent) and believing in Jesus as Lord and Savior to receive forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 3:2, 4:17; Luke 9:23-27; Acts 3:19, 17:30; 1 Thessalonians 1:9; James 5:20)
